Revathi Mahotsavam at Ayroor Puthiyakavu Devi Temple is one of the most spectacular and culturally rich festivals celebrated in Pathanamthitta, Kerala. The festival is dedicated to the presiding deity of the temple, Ayroor Puthiyakavu Amma who is revered as the guardian and protector of the local community.
This annual celebration attracts devotees from near and far offering them an opportunity to witness a harmonious blend of devotion, culture and tradition.
The festival is marked by a series of elaborate rituals and vibrant cultural activities that reflect the rich heritage of Kerala temple festivals.
One of the main attractions is the Padeni, a traditional ritualistic procession featuring beautifully decorated effigies, masks and artistic performances representing divine and mythological stories.The Padeni is often accompanied by kettukazhchas which are spectacular wooden and cloth effigies, chariots and colorful displays that devotees prepare and bring to the temple as offerings to the Goddess. Each local division or “kara” takes pride in presenting its most creative and elaborate effigies showcasing both devotion and artistic skill.
Devotees participate enthusiastically in the festival performing dances, songs and traditional art forms creating a vibrant atmosphere that transforms the temple surroundings into a lively celebration of faith and culture. The rituals include seva, deepa aradhana and processions through which devotees seek the blessings of the Goddess for prosperity, health and protection.
