Prathishta Varshikam at Peringanad Trichennamangalam Mahadevar Temple is a spiritually significant annual observance that commemorates the consecration of the presiding deity and reaffirms the sacred traditions of this ancient Shiva temple in Pathanamthitta district. The festival is conducted with great devotion, drawing devotees from Peringanad, Adoor and surrounding regions who gather to participate in rituals believed to bestow peace, health and prosperity.
The celebrations begin in the early hours with special poojas and purification rites performed according to Tantric and Vedic customs. One of the major offerings during the festival is Mrityunjaya Homam, a powerful ritual dedicated to Lord Shiva as the conqueror of death which is performed for the well being and longevity of devotees. Kalasha Abhishekam is another important ceremony, during which sacred water sanctified with mantras is poured over the deity symbolizing divine grace and spiritual renewal.
Pongala holds a special place during the observance with women devotees preparing the offering in a spirit of devotion and collective prayer. Annadanam is arranged for all devotees as a mark of charity and equality reflecting the temple’s age-old tradition of serving the community without distinction. The offering of Laksha Deepam where hundreds of lamps are lit around the temple premises creates a serene and divine atmosphere symbolizing the victory of light over darkness.
