Lord Shiva, also known as Mahadeva or the Great God, is one of the principal deities in Hinduism, revered as the Supreme Being who represents the aspects of destruction, transformation, and regeneration.
Shiva represents the transcendental aspect of the divine, beyond the limitations of form and attributes. He symbolizes the eternal and unchanging reality (Brahman) that underlies the universe's flux and change.
Festivals
The Temple has a number of festivals. The important ones are :
Thiru Ulsavam
Thiru Ulsavam, also known as the annual festival, is a grand celebration held at many temples in Kerala. When observed during the Malayalam month of Kumbham, it typically spans several days and involves various rituals, ceremonies, cultural programs, and festivities.
Pongala Maholsavam
During the Pongala Maholsavam at this temple, devotees, predominantly women, come together to prepare the sacred offering known as pongala. This ritual involves cooking rice, jaggery, coconut, and other ingredients in earthen pots over open fires as an offering to the presiding deity, usually Goddess Bhagavathy.
