The main deity of the temple is Goddess Bhadrakali, a fierce and benevolent form of the Hindu goddess, Kali. She is considered a powerful protective mother figure. The temple also includes shrines of other deities such as Brahmarakshas, Yakshi, and Naga (Serpent deities). The Kadakkad Sree Bhadrakali Temple is an ancient shrine with a rich spiritual heritage. While specific founding dates are not widely detailed, it is deeply ingrained in the local culture and traditions of Pandalam. It is believed that the Mahameru Chakra created by Parashurama, the Sri Chakra consecrated by Sri Shankaracharya, and the deity of Rudhira Mahakali are all present within its sanctum. Local folklore also mentions Vilwamangalam Swamiyar's association with invoking the divine presence of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Kali here. The temple's architecture follows the traditional Kerala style. It is a popular venue for Hindu weddings, with facilities for feasts and cultural events.

Festivals

The Temple has a number of festivals. The important ones are :

Pongala Maholsavam
The most significant annual festival at Pandalam Kadakkad Sree Bhadrakali Temple is the Pongala Maholsavam. During this vibrant celebration, thousands of women devotees gather, particularly on the auspicious day of Pongala, to prepare 'pongala' a traditional offering of boiled rice, jaggery, and coconut cooked in earthen pots. This offering is made to the Goddess as a gesture of devotion and gratitude, symbolizing prosperity and fulfillment of wishes. The holy fire from the temple is often taken out to start the fires for cooking Pongala.

Bhagavatha Sapthaham
The Bhagavatha Sapthaham is another important annual event. This is a sacred, week-long ritual dedicated to the recitation of the Srimad Bhagavatam (Bhagavata Purana). Learned scholars and devotees gather to chant verses from this Hindu epic, which narrates the life and deeds of Lord Krishna and other avatars of Vishnu. This spiritual discourse is considered highly meritorious and purificatory.
