Nedumkunnu Malanada Temple is devoted to Bhagavathy, the fierce Mother Goddess revered for her protective and purifying energy. Embracing traditional Kerala temple architecture set within a sacred grove, the shrine radiates calm devotion. Daily offerings include simple poojas, lamp lighting, and occasional homams, all aimed at welcoming devotees seeking blessings for family harmony, health, and spiritual upliftment.
Festivals
The Temple has a number of festivals. The important ones are :
Malakkuda Utsavam
Taking place in Meenam (March–April), the temple’s annual festival begins with flag-hoisting (Kodiyettu) and features days of poojas, cultural performances, and a traditional Arattu ritual immersion of the deity’s idol in nearby waters. The festival’s highlight is the dramatic Kettukazhcha procession, showcasing ornate temple effigies and percussive ensembles.
Thiruvonam Pongala Festival
Held on Thiruvonam during the Malayalam month of Makaram, this vibrant celebration invites women devotees to prepare sacred Pongala (a rice, coconut, and jaggery offering) in earthen pots around the temple grounds. This devotional cooking ritual symbolizes community unity and maternal devotion.
