While not among Kerala’s most widely known Ganapathy temples, it holds deep significance for local devotees and plays an important role in village life and religious culture. The temple honors Sri Maha Ganapathy as its principal deity. Devotees regularly perform Ganapathy Homam, coconut breaking rituals, and offer traditional prasadam such as modakam and unniappam for blessings and the removal of obstacles. The practice of coconut breaking is especially sacred and considered a direct appeal to the Lord for removing blockages and ushering in success.
Festivals
The Temple has a number of festivals. The important ones are :
Vinayaka Chaturthi
Observed during the bright fortnight of the Malayalam month Chingam (approximately August–September), this festival celebrates Lord Ganesha’s birth. At Angadickal, devoting special Ganapathy Homam, offerings like modakam, unniappam, and sarvaiswarya pooja mark the day. The community often completes the observance with Annadanam to devotees.
Varad Chaturthi
Observed in Magh (January–February), this festival seeks prosperity and wish fulfillment. The day is marked with fasts, devotional rituals, and coconut offerings, believed to remove negative influences and invite fulfillment of desires.
Sankashti Chaturthi
Celebrated on the fourth day of the waning lunar phase each month, especially revered when it falls on a Tuesday. Devotees observe fasts and perform special poojas in the evening, breaking the fast only after moon sighting. These practices are deeply believed to resolve problems and obstacles in life.
Special Occasions in Other Festivals
During broader Kerala festivals Onam, Vishu, Thiruvonam, Deepavali, and Vijayadashami special pujas are also held at this temple. The deity is offered prayers along with traditional offerings, rituals, and often Annadanam as part of festive devotion.
