Nemmara Vallangi Vela is one of the most vibrant and culturally rich temple festivals celebrated in Sri Nellikulangara Bhagavathi Temple, Palakkad dedicated to Sree Nellickulangara Bhagavathi and Sree Kurumba Bhagavathi. The festival for 2026 will be held on April 3 bringing together devotees from across Kerala and beyond to witness a grand display of devotion, tradition and artistic heritage.
The festival is marked by a series of rituals and cultural events that begin with Kurayidal and Kodimaram Nattal symbolizing the start of the festivities. Devotees actively participate in Parayeduppu, Thalappoli processions and Chamaya Pradarshanam, a ceremonial display of sacred festival paraphernalia.
One of the most spectacular highlights of Nemmara Vallangi Vela is the elephant procession at the Nellickulangara Shiva Temple where richly decorated elephants march in grandeur accompanied by the rhythmic beats of Panchavadyam, Pandimelam and Thayambaka ensembles. The festival also features fireworks traditional folk performances like Kanyar Kali and ceremonial offerings including Nelpara, Avilpara, Arippupara, Sharkarappara, Manjalpara, Malarpara and Panappara each symbolizing different blessings such as prosperity, education, family well being and the removal of obstacles.
The musical ensembles during Nemmara Vallangi Vela including Panchavadyam and Pandimelam are performed by accomplished artists from Kerala, adding rhythm, grandeur and divine energy to the celebrations.
