Ponkala Festival at Thiruvalathur Sree Randumoorthi Temple is a highly revered annual event celebrated with immense devotion by women devotees. It is observed during the Malayalam month of Meenam (March–April) and is one of the most spiritually vibrant gatherings at the temple.

Ponkala, meaning “to boil over,” is a sacred offering made primarily by women, in which they prepare a sweet dish of rice, jaggery, and coconut in clay pots. This offering is cooked in open hearths arranged in and around the temple premises. Women preparing Ponkala offerings at Thiruvalathur Temple during Meenam Thousands of women participate in this ritual, symbolizing pure devotion and the blessings of Goddess Bhagavathy. The festival transforms the entire temple area into a sea of devotion, as women of all ages gather, chant prayers, and prepare their offerings in unity and faith. The boiling over of the pot is seen as a sign of prosperity and divine grace. The ritual concludes with the sanctification of the Ponkala by temple priests, and the devotees take home their blessed offerings.The Ponkala Mahotsavam is not only a celebration of womanhood and faith but also a powerful expression of spiritual strength and collective devotion.
