Narasimha Jayanti is one of the most revered Hindu festivals dedicated to Lord Narasimha, the fierce half lion half man incarnation of Lord Vishnu celebrated with great devotion at the Narasimha Moorthi Temple in Palakkad.
The festival attracts thousands of devotees from across the region who come to seek the blessings of the deity who is believed to protect devotees from evil, remove obstacles and grant courage and strength in life.
At the Narasimha Moorthi Temple, the celebrations are marked by a series of elaborate rituals and devotional activities. The temple opens early in the morning with the traditional Abhishekam, a sacred bathing ritual of the deity with holy substances such as milk, honey, ghee and sandalwood paste. This is followed by special poojas, offerings and chanting of Vedic hymns creating an atmosphere of spiritual energy and devotion.
The festival also features cultural programs including devotional music, bhajans and classical dance performances highlighting the rich cultural heritage of Kerala. Devotees often participate in Annadanam which is considered an auspicious activity during the festival.
