The Mahashivaratri and Pratishthadina Mahotsavam 2026 at Sri Rameshwaram Ardhanareeshwara Temple, Palakkad promises to be a grand and spiritually enriching celebration that brings together devotees from across Kerala and beyond.
This ancient temple dedicated to Lord Ardhanareeshwara—the combined form of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati holds a special place in the hearts of devotees and the annual festivities mark one of the most auspicious times to seek divine blessings and participate in sacred rituals.
The Mahashivaratri celebrations commencing on 15th February 2026 (1201 Kumbham 3, Sunday) will include a series of elaborate rituals performed from early morning. The day begins with the traditional Nadathurakkal followed by Nirmalyam Thozhal, Abhishekams, Malar Nivedyam and Ganapathi Homam.
Devotees can also participate in Usha Pooja, special Abhishekams and the recitation of Narayaneeya. Prasada distribution and community offerings are an integral part of the day, providing a chance for devotees to connect through devotion and service. The evening features Deeparadhana, Ottanthullal performances and a vibrant cultural showcase including dance and music programs by local artists and academies.
The Pratishthadina Mahotsavam observed on 20th February 2026 celebrates the installation of the deity and includes Maha Ganapathi Homam, special poojas, Navakarma, Panchagavya offerings and other sacred rituals under the guidance of the temple Tantri. The day is marked by devotional recitations, special food offerings and evening cultural programs that highlight traditional Kerala performing arts. Devotees are encouraged to participate in the festivities and offer their prayers, flowers and pooja materials to receive the blessings of Lord Ardhanareeshwara and the subordinate deities.
