വേല മഹോത്സവം 2026 ശ്രീ കുറുമാലി ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം പാലക്കാട് | Vela Mahotsavam 2026 Sri Kurumali Bhagavathy Temple Palakkad
The Sree Kurumali Bhagavathi Vela Mahotsavam celebrated at the Sree Kurumali Bhagavathi Temple in Palakkad is one of the most vibrant and culturally rich temple festivals in Kerala.
This festival, held in the Manjapra region honors the benevolent and wish-fulfilling goddess, Sree Kurumali Bhagavathi, and is renowned for its grand scale, traditional rituals and deep rooted historical significance
The festival is a remarkable confluence of devotion, art and community participation carrying forward the heritage of centuries-old customs, traditional performances and social unity.
The festivities feature a magnificent elephant procession where caparisoned elephants parade from the local Ayyappan Kavu to the temple accompanied by rhythmic beats of Churika, Pallival and Cymbals. This visual and auditory spectacle is complemented by the ceremonial Ushapooja, Ganapathi Homam and Deeparadhana which invoke divine blessings and create a deeply spiritual atmosphere. Devotees also witness the lighting of lamps, elaborate floor designs and special offerings that exemplify the community’s devotion.
A central highlight of the festival is the Panchavadyam and Pandimelam performances where traditional Kerala percussion ensembles bring the temple grounds to life. Expert artists from across Kerala, including Thimila, Maddalam, Thalam, Kombu and Kuzhal performers contribute to the enthralling musical experience. The festival also features Thayambaka, a thrilling percussion solo showcasing the skill and endurance of young artists creating a vibrant rhythm that reverberates across the temple grounds.
Cultural programs form an integral part of the Mahotsavam including Chakyar Koothu, Ottanthullal, Thiruvathira, Kaikottikali, Kolkali, Bharatanatyam and cinematic dance performances presented by local talents and visiting artists. The festival celebrates the artistic legacy of the region while fostering a sense of community and continuity of traditional art forms.
