Bhagavathiyattu Mahotsavam at Puthukulangara Sree Bhagavati Temple, Palakkad is a spiritually vibrant and culturally rich temple festival dedicated to Goddess Bhagavati. Celebrated with deep devotion and traditional grandeur, the Mahotsavam reflects the living heritage of Kerala’s temple rituals and community celebrations.
The highlight of the festival is the sacred Bhagavathiyattu, a powerful ritual performance that symbolizes divine energy, protection and the victory of good over evil. Performed with rhythmic movements, traditional music and ceremonial attire, the ritual creates a spiritually charged atmosphere within the temple premises. Devotees gather in large numbers to witness this rare and meaningful offering to the Goddess believing it brings blessings, prosperity and protection to their families.
Another major attraction is the grand Kodivaravu, a ceremonial procession marked by traditional percussion instruments, lamps and devotional chants. The temple surroundings come alive with vibrant decorations, illuminated pathways and the rhythmic beats of chenda melam enhancing the festive spirit.
