The temple is the holy abode of Sree Mahadeva, who is depicted in a revered and benevolent posture after gifting the holy Pashupathasthra to Arjuna. Sree Maha Vishnu and other upa devathas are also worshipped here.

Originally the Thevaara Murthi of the erstwhile Vengeri Mana, the present form of the deity took shape about 500 years ago, with the consecration of Maha Vishnu and other deities occurring later. The temple attracts numerous devotees from far and near, who come to offer their prayers and seek blessings at the lotus feet of Lord Mahadeva.

Shivaratri
Shivaratri at the Sree Vengeri Mahadeva Temple is marked by special Abhishekam, where sacred substances like milk, honey, and water are poured over the Shiva Lingam. Devotees participate in Ganapathi Homam, Annadanam, Deeparadhana, and Shiva Sahasra Nama Archana. The rituals also include Pushpanjali and Uma Maheswara Pooja, creating a spiritually enriching experience for all participants.
Illam Nira
At the Sree Vengeri Mahadeva Temple, Illam Nira marks the first harvest of paddy and involves a special ritual. The freshly harvested paddy is worshipped and offered to the deity, symbolizing gratitude and seeking blessings for prosperity. This ritual is celebrated with devotion, drawing devotees who partake in the joyous occasion, honoring the abundance provided by the deity.
