Meen Kolathi Devi Temple Palakkad

The Meen Kolathi Temple in Pallassana village, Palakkad District, is dedicated to Meenakshi. Established by the Mannadiar family, originally from Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu.

The temple's origin is traced to a divine incident where a stone from Madurai, worshipped by the family, transformed into Goddess Meenakshi. After 400 years, a temple was built on the spot, featuring the ashta Durgas around the sanctum sanctorum.

The Temple has a number of festivals. The important ones are :

Devi Bhagavatha Navaha Yanjam

Devi Bhagavatha Navaha Yanjam is a nine-day ritualistic recitation of the Devi Bhagavatha, an esteemed scripture glorifying the divine feminine energy. During this sacred event, devotees engage in the chanting of verses, performances of rituals, and listening to discourses related to the Devi Bhagavatha. The Yanjam serves as a spiritual endeavor to invoke the blessings of the goddess, fostering devotion, and seeking her divine grace for protection, prosperity, and spiritual enlightenment.

Mandala Vilakku

Mandala Vilakku is a traditional ritual observed in South Indian temples, particularly in Kerala, during the Mandalakalam period, which usually spans 41 days. Devotees light oil lamps (vilakku) in temples and homes every evening throughout this period as an offering to the deity. The ritual symbolizes devotion, auspiciousness, and the dispelling of darkness, while also serving as a time of heightened spiritual observance and reflection for devotees.
