The temple is dedicated to Sree Manappulli Bhagavathi, who is believed to be the daughter of Lord Shiva and the fierce form of Bhadrakali. According to legend, she was born from the sacred Jada of Lord Shiva during Dakshayaga. Sree Manappulli Bhagavathi is depicted as black in color with four hands holding a Soolam, Kapalam, Gadkam, and Khedam. She has three eyes, four big teeth, a beautiful dress, numerous ornaments, and rides a ghost vahana, embodying a bright, shining, and fearful appearance.
Known for fulfilling the desires of devotees, she is believed to be ever-present when called upon with genuine devotion. The temple's annual festival, Manapullikavu Vela, is a major event that attracts numerous worshippers.

Manapullikavu Vela
Manapullikavu Vela is a festival honoring the deity Manapulli Bhagavathy, celebrated between the last week of February and the first week of March based on the Malayalam calendar. The festival begins with Kodiyettam, marking the start of a week filled with pooja ceremonies and colorful cultural programs organized by the Vela Committee. The grand day of Manapullikavu Vela sees numerous devotees from Kerala and other southern states of India, starting early with poojas and highlighted by the significant Chaandh Abishekam ritual, attracting many worshippers.
Navaratri
During Navaratri, the temple celebrates with a series of vibrant and spiritually enriching events. The festivities include Pooja Veyppu, Saraswathi Pooja, and Naavum Naarayavum Vazhipadu. The celebrations culminate with Vidyarambham, a ceremony marking the initiation of young children into the world of letters and learning.
