The deity, Bhadrakali, is enshrined in a clay idol more than six feet tall and is seen as a serene goddess despite being known for her fierce swarupa.
Initially owned by Zamothiri and Eralpad, the temple later came under the possession of vassals and was until recently part of the estate of Elampulassery Moopil Nayar.
Festivals
The Temple has a number of festivals. The important ones are :
Pooram Maholsavam
Pooram is celebrated on the Pooram day in the Meena month with various traditional rituals and festivities. The celebration begins with the kodiyettam, followed by thayampaka, and deeparadhana. The festivities culminate with the arattu ezhunnallath, a grand procession that includes the ceremonial bathing of the deity.
Ramayana Maasa Acharanam
Ramayana Maasa Acharanam is observed here in the month of Karkkidakam with great devotion and reverence. The observance includes Sampoorna Ramayana Parayanam, where the entire Ramayana is recited, and the Ellam Nira ritual, which involves offering various items to the deity. These practices are carried out with the aim of seeking blessings and spiritual upliftment during the auspicious month.
