This is one of the famous temples in Malappuram district with more than 5000 years old history. It is believed that Sage Parashurama installed the idol here. Legend associated with this festival is that, once this temple was owned by Vettathu Rajavu. During this time heavy drought occurred this place. Then the king prayed to lord that if rain occurred on coming thulam he will conduct a 7 days festival annually as thanks giving. Lord heard his prayer and rain occurred. Till then this festival is conducted annually. Vavutsavam Thrikkandiyoor Siva Temple Malappuram Kerala Annual festival of this temple falls in the Malayalam month of thulam, a grand percussion music known as panikottu takes place on the day before the festival. Other than this, several traditional and cultural activities takes place during the festival period such as ottanthullal, chakyarkoothu, mohiniyattam, bharathanatyam, musical concerts etc. On the final day of the festival there is a procession which starts from Thrikkandiyur temple to Bhandaram kavu temple accompanied by floats and percussion music where certain rituals takes place and by around 8 'o clock procession reaches back to temple which marks the end of the festival.
