This 2000 year old temple is situated at Manjeri town in Malappuram district. Bala Durga also known as Sree Mootrukunnu Bhagavathy (Durga in child's form) is the main deity of this temple.
Ganapathy is the only sub deity. Mootrukunnu Bhagavathy Temple is one among the famous Devi temples of Kerala that too in the Malabar area. It is a hilltop temple. Ritualistic kalamezhuthu pattu ceremony takes place every year in the malayalam month of dhanu. It is a two days spectacular event.

Kalamezhuthu pattu is a ritualistic art form involving the drawing of a picture of deity with colour powder. Kalams are made as part of temple festivals or specific rituals. Mounds of rice, flowers and garlands are used to decorate the area where the kalam is drawn. Lighting is usually achieved using oil lamps, while singing hymns in praise of the respective deity is an important part of the ritual.Kalams occupy an important place in Kerala's rituals and figures of favorite deities are drawn on the floor. It is a temple art. Songs are rendered to appease the figures/ deities. The drawings are often intricate and complex but executed only with the hands; no other tools are used. On dhanu 8th Vettakkorumakan (deity) kalampattu takes place and on 9th Thripuranthan(deity) kalampattu takes place. Percussion music is an inevitable event associated with this festival.
