The temple primarily consists of a Chathura Sreekovil, which is a square sanctum sanctorum where the main deity is housed. Additionally, there are small shrines of Upa Devatas (lesser deities) within the temple compound.
The annual Makara Chowa festival holds great significance in the temple. During this festival, various rituals and pujas, including ezhunellippu (processions) and varavukal (offerings), are performed.

Navaratri
Navaratri, meaning nine nights, is a major Hindu festival celebrated over nine days and nights in honor of the divine feminine goddesses, including Goddess Bhagavathi. Each day of Navaratri is dedicated to a different form of the goddess, and various rituals, prayers, and cultural events are held during this auspicious period.
Makara Chowa Festival
The Makara Chowa festival is of great importance at the Kolathra Bhagavathy Temple. This annual festival, celebrated with much fervor and devotion, usually falls in the month of January during the Makara Sankranti period.
