The Pallithara Kurumba Bhagavati Temple in Kozhikode is renowned for its annual Ulsavaaghoshangal 2026, a grand celebration that beautifully combines devotion, culture and tradition. Scheduled from March 11 to 14, 2026, this festival attracts devotees from across Kerala and neighboring states who come to seek the blessings of the Goddess and partake in the rich cultural festivities.
The temple dedicated to Kurumba Bhagavati is a vibrant center of spiritual activity and the festival highlights the deep-rooted traditions of Kerala’s temple culture.
The festival begins with Deepa Aradhana, a ceremonial lamp worship performed in the evening marking the commencement of the sacred celebrations. Each day is filled with a variety of events including devotional bhajans, classical music performances and traditional dramas that depict stories from mythology. One of the key highlights is the Ganapathi Homa, a sacred fire ritual performed in the early hours believed to invoke the blessings of Lord Ganesha for prosperity and wellbeing.
Another central attraction of the festival is the Thalappoli procession where women carrying traditional lamps in decorated plates walk around the temple creating a mesmerizing visual spectacle. The Pongala offering, an important ritual performed by women devotees involves cooking a special sweet dish as an offering to the Goddess, symbolizing devotion and gratitude.
Cultural performances are a highlight of Ulsavaaghoshangal with Vadya Melam, Thayambaka and other instrumental concerts that create an immersive spiritual and festive atmosphere. The festival also includes Kalasham procession where decorated sacred pots are carried ceremonially around the temple accompanied by elephants and musicians adding grandeur and a sense of community celebration.
