Thira Utsavam 2026 at Sree Thattarakkal Bhagavathi Kshethram, Kozhikode is one of the most awaited temple festivals in northern Kerala celebrated with deep devotion and traditional grandeur.
The Sree Thattarakkal Bhagavathi Kshethram dedicated to the goddess Bhagavathi becomes the epicenter of vibrant rituals, music and dance during this auspicious occasion.
The festival begins with early morning rituals and poojas where the deity is offered special prayers, flowers and traditional offerings. Devotees gather in large numbers to witness these sacred ceremonies, which are believed to bring prosperity and divine blessings.
One of the highlights of the festival is the Thira performance, a ritualistic dance performed by men wearing elaborate masks and costumes representing divine spirits. Accompanied by rhythmic beats of traditional percussion instruments such as Chenda, Elathalam and Thimila, the Thira performance is both a spiritual offering and a spectacular cultural experience.
In addition to the ritualistic events, the festival also features a variety of cultural programs, including folk dances, traditional music concerts and community feasts known as Annadanam, where devotees are served free meals in the temple premises.
