This is one of the famous Ayyappa temple in Kozhikode district. The speciality of this temple is that in this temple Lord Ayyappa along with his wife and son (Sastha with Prabha and Sathyakan)
is the main deity, which is very rare in Kerala. Lord Sreekrishna, Ganapathy, Vettakkorumakan are the sub deities. This festival is conducted annually in order to increase the vigour of the deity and to bring prosperity to the whole community.
Annual Festival 2025 | Thayatt Ayyappa Temple Kozhikode
The five days festival of this temple starts in the Malayalam
month of Meenom. It is a very colourful event. Lots of
cultural and religious activities take place as part of this
festival. There are special poojas and offerings during this
period. Major attraction of this festival is 'Krishnanattom', a
major temple art form of Kerala, which literally means dance
of Krishna. It is a dance drama which presents the story of
Krishna right from his birth to his ascent to heaven, is
presented in eight parts. From that, one part is performed in
this festival. The actors render in accordance with the songs
from background, there is no dialogue. Chengila, Maddalam
and Elathalam are the accompanying musical instruments.
The make up and costumes are colourful and vibrant.
Other than this Kadhakali. Ottanthullan and different dance
forms like Bharathanatyam, Mohiniyattom, Thiruvathira etc
are also performed. Musical concerts, drama, bale are also
staged during the festival period which makes this festival
more vibrant.
