This is one of the famous temples in Kozhikode with more that 2000 years old history. Karinkalikavu devi is the main deity. This temple is owned by an ancestral family.The legend associated with this temple is that the divine presence was originally in the mountain i.e. around 2 km from the temple.
A senior person of this family was doing daily poojas to devi. Since he became old he was not able to climb the mountain to perform poojas to devi. He felt very sad. During this time, one day devi appeared on his dream and told that her presence will be here and he need not climb the mountain. It was on this place were the temple was later constructed.

Annual festival of this temple last for 30 days. On the starting day, those who perform 'kolams' goes to the mountain as a procession to invite devi. It is a grand event which attracts many, meanwhile many cultural and folk arts such as vattakkali, thottampattu are performed in the temple. Once devi reaches the temple, theyyam take place and is held in rest of the days. During the evening vellattu ceremony take place and after that by around 7'0 clock actual theyyam take place, known as 'bhagavathi thira, which is common for 30 days. On the 30th day theyyam is performed in a sad mood. After that farewell time of devi, which is very much touching. It is on a belief that devi goes to visit her elder sisters marriage. And after seven days she returns back to the temple. Till that time temple will be closed.
