It is one of the 108 Durga Temples established by Lord Parasurama for the welfare and prosperity of Kerala. The main deity is Goddess Jaladurga, with Lord Ayyappa and Lord Ganesh also worshipped here.
The temple premises include five sacred ponds filled with holy water, one of which is located inside the temple and used for all poojas and rituals conducted at the temple.
