Thiru Utsavam at Velloothuruthy Bhagavathy Temple in Kottayam is one of the most revered and vibrant annual festivals in the region, celebrated with immense devotion and grandeur. Dedicated to Sri Bhagavathi, the temple’s presiding deity, the festival draws devotees from across Kerala who come to seek the blessings of the goddess known for her compassion, protection and ability to remove obstacles from the lives of her devotees.
The festival embodies a perfect blend of spiritual rituals, cultural expressions and community participation making it a significant event in the religious calendar.
The celebrations commence with ceremonial rituals at the temple including the hoisting of the temple flag signaling the beginning of the festival. Devotees engage in special poojas, abhishekams and offerings creating an atmosphere of sanctity and devotion.
A major highlight of the festival is the temple chariot procession where the beautifully decorated chariot carrying the deity moves through the surrounding localities, accompanied by traditional percussion ensembles, devotional songs, and vibrant folk performances.
