Thidanadu Utsavam 2026 at Thidanadu Maha Temple, Kottayam is one of the most vibrant and spiritually enriching festivals in Kerala attracting devotees from across the state and beyond. Celebrated annually, this festival brings together centuries-old traditions, devotional rituals and cultural performances in a grand spectacle of faith and community.
The festival begins with the ceremonial flag hoisting marking the start of ten days filled with pious offerings, devotional music and various cultural programs.
During the festival, the temple premises come alive with the enchanting sights and sounds of Vilakkinezhunnallippu, Thiruvathira and classical music performances. Devotional evenings, including Ganamela, Bhajanam and Sangeetha Lahari create an atmosphere of spiritual devotion and harmony. Special rituals such as Pallivetta, the symbolic hunt by the deity and Arattu, the holy bath ceremony are performed with meticulous care drawing large crowds of devotees who participate in these sacred observances.
A significant highlight of the festival is the distribution of Prasadam where devotees receive the sanctified offerings of the temple fostering a sense of community and shared devotion. The festival also features artistic performances like Veeranatyam and violin fusion concerts blending tradition with contemporary creativity. The grand Valiya Vilakku serves as a visual spectacle and spiritual symbol illuminating the temple and surrounding areas.
