The Pratishthadina Mahotsavam 2026 at Shree Dharma Sastha Temple, Mudiurkara, Gandhinagar, Kottayam is a grand and spiritually enriching festival that draws devotees from across Kerala.
The festival begins with the Saptaaha Yajnam which is observed from January 19 to January 25, 2026 (Makaram 5 to Makaram 11). During these days, devotees can witness elaborate rituals including Ganapati Homam, Vishnu Sahasranama Japa, Grantha Pooja and Srimad Bhagavatha Parayanam. Each day focuses on key episodes from the Bhagavata Purana, such as Kunti Stuti, Bhishma Stuti, Kapila Avatar, Narasimha Avatar, Krishna Leelas and the Vamana and Varaha incarnations allowing devotees to immerse themselves in the divine stories and teachings of Lord Vishnu and Lord Ayyappa. Special offerings or Nivedyam like appam, sweet porridge, and other traditional delicacies, are prepared and offered to the deity while Pushpanjali and Deepa Aradhana enhance the sanctity of the rituals.
Following the Saptaaha Yajnam, the Pratishthadina Mahotsavam itself is celebrated from January 26 to 28, 2026 (Makaram 12 to Makaram 14). These days include Abhishekam, Kavadi Procession, Deepa Aradhana and Maha Prasadam distribution as well as cultural programs such as Thiruvathirakali, Kathakali, Baale Kalika and Mayilattam performed by renowned artists and local groups. Devotees also have the opportunity to witness the Kalasha Abhishekam, Panchavadyam and other traditional temple arts which add grandeur to the celebrations.
Families actively contribute to rituals, cultural offerings and Annadanam making the temple a vibrant center of spiritual and cultural life during this auspicious period. The combination of deeply rooted rituals, recitation of sacred texts and lively performances ensures that devotees experience both spiritual upliftment and cultural enrichment at Shree Dharma Sastha Temple during this festival.
