The Uthralikkavu Pooram 2026 which is held at the historic Kumaranalloor Devi Temple in Kottayam is set to be a grand celebration of Kerala’s rich cultural and religious heritage. The festivities commence on Tuesday, February 17 with the ceremonial Parappurappadu procession at 7:00 PM followed by the application of Karimarunnu at 8:00 PM a ritual integral to the Pooram’s spiritual preparations. From February 18 to 23, the temple hosts a variety of cultural and artistic programs creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with music, dance and devotional performances reflecting the deep-rooted traditions of Kerala. On Sunday, February 22, the excitement builds with the Althara Melam, a magnificent display of traditional percussion ensembles beginning at 5:00 PM at Uthralikkavu. This is accompanied by a procession known as Triprangam led by Parameswaran Marar and his team along with sample applications of Karimarunnu, giving devotees a glimpse of the rituals preceding the main Pooram day. Monday, February 23 features the spectacular elephant procession display a hallmark of Kerala temple festivals. The sight of richly decorated elephants, combined with rhythmic percussion, draws crowds and creates a mesmerizing visual and auditory experience.

The main Pooram day, Tuesday, February 24 is the highlight of the festival. Starting at 2:00 PM, devotees can enjoy Panchavadyam a traditional orchestra of five instruments, alongside the grand Bhagavatipuram procession, Kudamattam and Koottiyezhunnallippu, a group procession of elephants and performers. Rituals such as Karimarunnu application continue throughout adding spiritual significance to the celebrations. The festival concludes on Wednesday, February 25 with an early morning Panchavadyam from 2:00 AM followed by the final Koottiyezhunnallippu and Karimarunnu application, marking the ceremonial closure of the Pooram festivities.
