The Pathamudaya Mahotsavam at Sree Kuttikkattu Devi Temple, Kottayam is one of the most revered and spiritually vibrant festivals in Kerala celebrated with deep devotion and traditional grandeur.
This festival honors Kuttikkattu Amma, the presiding deity of the temple known for her divine grace and power to bless devotees with prosperity, protection and spiritual well being. The temple itself is renowned for its unique rituals and customs that set it apart from other shrines in the region, making it a significant center of devotion for generations of worshippers.
During the festival, the temple premises come alive with a range of religious and cultural activities creating an atmosphere of divine celebration. The Kudam Pooja, a central ritual of the festival, symbolizes the offering of devotion and faith where beautifully decorated pots are carried in ceremonial processions to the sanctum. Traditional musical ensembles including Chenda Melam, Pambamelam and other percussion instruments fill the air with rhythm and energy heightening the spiritual experience for all attendees. The participation of elephants adorned in ceremonial regalia adds grandeur and majesty to the celebrations drawing devotees from near and far.
Apart from the rituals, the festival also showcases Kerala’s rich cultural heritage through performances of classical dances, devotional music and folk art forms.
