The Meenapooram festival is celebrated in the malayalam month of meenom.lts celebrated in honour of the devi.Legend says that Devi appeared on the top of a Manjadi in the west side of the Temple. when a Girivarga women was searching for some tubers in that place using some sharp weapon. Suddenly blood flowed from a rock. Thus she saw the first sign of the presents of Devi. According to astrological calculations the vigour of Devi came to the Temple on top of the umbrella(olakkuda) of devotee who came hearing about the miracles that was happening there. Later the deity was installed / inducted to the present Temple.Over eleven centuries of history resides in the sacred Devi Temple of Cheruvally. t is believed that the Devi appeared in this village about 1100 years ago by the superior dexterity power of Sree Sankaracharya.

The festival starts with Kodiyettu and ends with Thiru Arattu Ceremony. The festival lasts for 8 days. Cultural programs and stage shows are the main programs. Different kinds of Ritual ceremonies are performed on the festival days. Dance Drama, Drama, Classical Dance And music, Ganamela, Vahanam Ezhunnallippu, Folk Dance, Ottanthullal, Kadhakali, Harikadha are some of the programs.
