കോട്ടയം, മരിയപ്പള്ളി ശ്രീ മഹാദേവ മഹാവിഷ്ണു ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ തിരു ഉത്സവം ഡിസംബർ-ജനുവരി (മലയാള മാസം ധനു) മാസങ്ങളിൽ 8 ദിവസത്തെ വാർഷിക ഉത്സവമാണ്.

Thiruvutsavam is the main festival celebrated in the Mariyapally Mahadeva Mahavishnu Temple. Festival is conducted on Thiruvathira in the Malayalam month of Dhanu ie the birth date of Lord Mahadeva.
The temple has historical backgrounds related to the Thekkumkoor (southern regent)
and Vadakkumkoor (northern regent) kingdoms. Lord Maha Vishnu was the Family Deity of Vaddakumkoor
Kingdom and Lord Mahadeva was the Family Deity of Thekkumkoor Kingdom. The speciality of the
temple is that it has 2 Kodimaram (Literally means Flag pole). Both deities in the temple has equal
importance. The sub deities are Lord Naga and Lord Ganapathy.

The festival is conducted for a period of 8 days and it starts in the evening. A procession from a Shivaparvati Temple reaches the temple followed with the Flag Hoisting Ceremony. One of the main attraction of the festival is that the Cultural programs are organized on daily basis, such as Thiruvathira, Traditional dance forms, Music Concerts, Plays. Maha Prasada Oote is traditional food feast given to all the devotees. Krishnanattam is a temple art. It is a dance-drama and presents the story of Krishna in a series of eight plays and are: Avataram, Kaliyamardanam, Rasakrida, Kamsavadham,Swayamvaram, Banayuddham, Vividavadham and Swargarohanam. Pallivetta is an event done in the seventh day of the festival and it is a the ritualistic royal hunt of the Lord to drive off the evil spirits.Arattu is another main event in which the temple priest caries the main deities to the holy water and takes bath. And the festival ends with the flag downing ceremony.
