Pongala Mahotsavam 2025 at Njarkkalakkavu Sree Dharmashastha Temple in Kottayam district is a devotional annual event celebrated with deep devotion and traditional temple rituals. This auspicious Pongala festival will be observed on Sunday, 21 December 2025 (Dhanu 6, 1201), bringing together devotees to seek the blessings of Lord Dharmashastha (Ayyappa) and the Divine Mother.
The festival ceremonies will commence at 9:00 AM when the sacred fire will be lit at the Bhandara Aduppu. This ritual will be performed under the guidance and permission of the temple Thantri, Brahmasree Vinod Namboothiri and conducted by the Melshanthi, Brahmasree Manilal Namboothiri. Following this, the holy fire will be distributed to the individual Pongala hearths and devotees will begin the offering of Pongala as a sacred nivedyam.
To ensure the comfort and smooth participation of devotees, Pongala registration has been arranged at a nominal fee of Rs. 350 per offering. For the first 150 registered devotees, all necessary Pongala materials will be provided by the temple on the festival day starting from 5:30 AM. These include the hearth, cooking pot, rice, jaggery, raisins, sugar candy, ghee, camphor, oil, incense materials, spices and Ganapathi offering items. Devotees are requested to bring essential personal items such as banana leaves, flowers, lamps, firewood, ladles, betel leaves and areca nuts.
After the completion of the Pongala offering, all devotees are encouraged to participate in the Prasadam distribution held at the temple premises. For devotees who are unable to attend the festival in person, the temple has made arrangements to offer Pongala at the Bhandara Aduppu on their behalf upon remittance of Rs. 350, ensuring that everyone can receive the divine blessings.
