Kumbha Bharani Mahotsavam is one of the most vibrant and culturally significant temple festivals celebrated in Kerala and Elamkavu Bhagavathy Temple in Kottayam stands out as a prime destination for devotees during this time.
The festival falls in the Malayalam month of Kumbham and is observed with great devotion, enthusiasm and elaborate rituals that honor Goddess Bhagavathy. Over two days, the temple transforms into a hub of spiritual activities, traditional art forms and community gatherings, attracting devotees and tourists from across the region.
One of the highlights of the festival is Kalameluthupattu, a unique ritual where intricate floor drawings of the deity are created using natural colored powders accompanied by devotional songs that narrate the stories of the goddess.
