Kalabhabhisheka Mahotsavam at Perumthuruthu Edamana Sree Krishna Swamy Temple, Kottayam is one of the most revered and vibrant temple festivals in Kerala, celebrated with immense devotion and traditional grandeur.
This festival is a magnificent spiritual event that attracts devotees from across the region offering a unique blend of ritualistic worship, cultural programs and community participation. The festival centers around the Kalabhabhisheka, a sacred consecration ritual that involves elaborate sanctification of the deity’s idol accompanied by the chanting of Vedic hymns, sacred rituals, and devotional music.
The celebrations include the Bhagavata Saptaham, a continuous recitation and exposition of the Bhagavata Purana which highlights the divine pastimes and teachings of Lord Krishna. This recitation is conducted by distinguished scholars and priests providing both spiritual guidance and philosophical insights to the devotees. Alongside the recitations, the festival features a wide range of cultural programs such as classical music, traditional Kerala dance forms like Ottanthullal, Mohiniyattam, Thiruvathira and Kathakali as well as other folk performances.
