Thiruvutsavam at Erumeli Sree Dharma Sastha Temple is one of the most vibrant and spiritually uplifting festivals in Kerala attracting devotees from across the state and beyond. The festival is a celebration of devotion, ritual and community centered around the worship of Lord Dharma Sastha, who is revered as a protector, healer and guide.
The temple itself located in the scenic town of Erumeli, serves as a focal point for both spiritual and cultural activities during the festival reflecting the rich traditions of Kerala temple rituals.
The celebrations are marked by a variety of sacred rituals that highlight the temple’s unique customs and heritage.
Devotees witness elaborate poojas including Ashtabhishekam and Ganapathi Homam which are performed with meticulous attention to detail invoking divine blessings for health, prosperity and spiritual growth. The Pallivetta, a symbolic divine hunt is a striking ritual that captures the imagination of devotees followed by the Arattu, or holy bath of the deity which symbolizes purification and renewal.
Cultural programs are an integral part of Thiruvutsavam, with performances of traditional Kerala art forms such as Kathakali, classical dance, Nadhaswaram, Thakil and Panchari Melam. These performances are often presented by trained artists and local cultural groups, creating a mesmerizing blend of music, rhythm and movement that complements the spiritual ambiance. The festival also emphasizes community participation with devotees actively involved in offerings, rituals and ceremonial preparations.
