According to tradition, a member of the Kaladi family once received a powerful mantric text from Surya Deva. Since then, the Mana came to be known as Surya Kalady Mana, and the male lineage has borne the distinguished title Surya Kalady Suryan Bhattathiri. Surya Deva is revered as their spiritual Guru, while Maha Ganapathy is the family’s principal deity. The idol of Maha Ganapathy, enshrined within the Nalukettu, is worshipped in the rare form of Beeja Ganapathy depicted with ten arms and accompanied by his consort. The daily Ganapathy Homam performed here is unique, with Surya symbolically serving as the divine lamp during the five hour long ritual. This is accompanied by Palppayasa Homam, which is also performed each morning. Notable offerings include the Mukkooti Homam and Nalikera Ganapathy Homam.

The most significant festival at Suryakalady Mana is Vinayaka Chathurthi. On this auspicious day, the grand Sahasrashtathika Ashtadravya Maha Ganapathy Homam is conducted, beginning at 5 a.m. and concluding around 1:30 p.m. Other special rituals on this day include Panchavimsathi Kalasabhishekam, Maha Nivedyam and Prathyaksha Ganapathy Pooja. Additionally, Surya Pooja is held every Sunday, while Shiva-Parvathy Pooja is conducted on the first day of each Malayalam month, continuing the spiritual traditions of this sacred lineage.
