The temple is dedicated to Goddess Mahakali, worshipped here in her fierce and protective form.

It is especially renowned for the vibrant Amman Koda Maholsavam, a grand festival that attracts large numbers of devotees every year.
Festivals
The Temple has a number of festivals. The important ones are :
Ayilyam Pooja
Ayilyam Pooja at Ujjaini Mahakali Amman Kovil is observed during the Malayalam month of Thulam, on the auspicious Ayilyam nakshatra day. This special pooja involves offerings to serpent deities—such as milk, turmeric, flowers, and oil lamps—performed in front of a snake-engraved kalam to seek protection, healing, and harmony in the family.
Maha Mrityunjaya Homam
Maha Mrityunjaya Homam is performed at Morkulangara Devi Temple as a powerful ritual for health, protection, and long life. Devotees participate in this sacred fire offering to seek blessings from Lord Shiva for relief from illness and to overcome fear of death.
