Adorned with copper-sheeted roofs featuring 14 ornamental tops, it stands as a majestic symbol of devotion and heritage.Within its sacred precincts, devotees worship Lord Shiva, the primary deity, along with several subordinate deities including Bhagavathi, Sastha, Dakshinamoorthy, Ganapathy, and Yakshi.
Legend has it that the esteemed philosopher Adi Shankaracharya composed the revered hymn Soundarya Lahari during his sojourn in this temple, adding to its historical and cultural significance.

Ezhara Ponnana Darshanam
Ezhara Ponnana refers to a collection of eight golden elephant statuettes, including seven large-sized and one small-sized elephant. These exquisite artifacts are kept in the temple vault throughout the year and are displayed annually for devotees to have darshan. Legend has it that they were presented to the temple by Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma, the founder of the Travancore kingdom.
Thulabharam
The Thulabharam ritual holds significant importance in this temple. Devotees offer various items to God as a gesture of gratitude for blessings received. During the ritual, individuals or children for whom offerings were pledged to God are weighed against offerings, which can range from gold to fruits.
