Changamatha Bhadrakali Temple

The shrine venerates Bhadrakali, a fierce and protective form of the Mother Goddess. The idol, traditionally carved in bas-relief or stone, represents the tenacious spirit of Kali celebrated in Kerala’s Bhadrakali worship. The temple architecture follows local Kerala styles, featuring a west-facing sanctum, a modest gopuram, and a small mandapam. Daily worship includes poojas, lamp offerings, and occasional homams, fostering an atmosphere of solace and spiritual renewal for visitors.

Festivals

The Temple has a number of festivals. The important ones are :

Changamatha Pongala Ritual
A lively women-led offering during the Thiruvonam nakshatra in Kumbham–Meenam, where devotees cook Pongala (sweet rice in clay pots) outside the temple. This festival emphasizes communal devotion and shared blessings sought from the Mother Goddess.

Annual Utsavam with Kodiyettu & Arattu
In early spring (Meenam), the temple marks its own annual festivity, starting with the ceremonial flag-hoisting (Kodiyettu), followed by several days of ritual worship, cultural performances, and concluding with the immersive bath (Arattu) of the deity’s idol symbolizing divine cleansing and community togetherness.
