Vendar Thaipooyam is one of the most vibrant and spiritually uplifting festivals celebrated at the Vendar Sree Subrahmanya Swami Temple in Kollam, Kerala. This annual festival falls during the Malayalam month of Makaram and spans three days filled with devotional fervor, traditional rituals and spectacular cultural performances. Vendar Thaipooyam 2026 at Vendar Sree Subrahmanya Swami Temple Kollam Kerala The festival is dedicated to Lord Subrahmanya, the divine commander of the Devas who is revered for bestowing protection, courage, and prosperity upon his devotees. The celebrations begin early in the morning with the Palliyunarthal or the ceremonial awakening of the temple followed by the opening of temple doors and the sacred rituals of Nirmalyam and Abhishekam, which purify the deity and sanctify the temple premises. Devotees engage in continuous Harinama Keerthanam, chanting the holy names of the Lord accompanied by melodious Sopanam music and the recitation of sacred texts like the Bhagavata Purana.

Alongside, the Vel Kavadi is carried by devotees in fulfillment of vows, accompanied by traditional percussion ensembles, Panchari Melam, and vibrant cultural performances including Bharatanatyam, Kathakali and folk arts. The festival also features the Thalappoli where women carry lamps in a ritualistic procession adding a unique visual and spiritual charm. Throughout the festival, devotees from across Kerala gather at Vendar to participate in Annadanam, devotional music and the grand Kavadi processions that traverse several temples en route to the main sanctum, creating a sense of unity, faith, and celebration.
