Uthradam Thirunal & Pongala Mahotsavam at Alayamon Sri Aalappan Temple, Kollam is one of the most vibrant and spiritually significant temple festivals in Kerala. Uthradam Thirunal & Pongala Mahotsavam 2026 at Alayamon Sri Aalappan Temple Kollam Kerala Celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm, this festival draws thousands of devotees, pilgrims and cultural enthusiasts from across the region, offering a unique blend of religious rituals, traditional art forms and community participation. The festival begins with the Pongala Mahotsavam, a sacred offering to the goddess where devotees prepare special sweet rice offerings in earthen pots. This ritual is considered highly auspicious and women devotees participate in large numbers, seeking blessings, prosperity and spiritual fulfillment. The temple premises are filled with the aroma of the Pongala preparation and the sounds of devotional chanting creating a serene yet celebratory atmosphere.

Throughout the festival, the temple hosts daily rituals and poojas including Ushapooja, Ganapathi Homam and Bhagavatha Parayanam which are performed with strict adherence to tradition. Devotees also participate in Para Vazhipadu, special offerings and receive blessings from the deity for health, prosperity and peace. A highlight of the festival is the grand Ezhunnallathu procession featuring elaborately decorated elephants, vibrant floats depicting mythological themes and spectacular Panchavadyam and Chenda Melam performances. Cultural programs such as classical dance, Kaikottikali, Thiruvathira, folk arts, Pulikali and mirror dance are performed every evening showcasing Kerala’s rich artistic heritage.
