The Thudayannoor Shivaratri Festival 2026 is a vibrant and spiritually significant celebration held at the Sree Arathakanthappan Temple in Kollam, Kerala. This festival observed annually is dedicated to Lord Shiva and marks a period of intense devotion, rituals and cultural festivities.
Devotees from Kollam and neighboring districts flock to the temple to participate in the celebrations seeking blessings for prosperity, health and spiritual growth.
The festival spans several days starting with the ceremonial opening of the temple doors and the traditional Nirmalya Darshanam where devotees have a glimpse of the sanctum adorned with sacred offerings. Key rituals performed include the Ganapathi Homam, Usha Pooja, Kalash Pooja, Kalasha Abhishekam and the Bhagavata Parayanam which are believed to purify the mind and soul of the participants. Special poojas such as Mahaganapathi Homam and Mahamrityunjaya Homam are conducted invoking divine protection and well being.
Cultural programs form an integral part of the festival. These include traditional dance performances, music recitals, Kakkarissi Natakam and Kalamezhuthu Pattu showcasing the rich heritage of Kerala. The festival also features grand processions with elephants, pooja processions and community participation creating a mesmerizing atmosphere of devotion and celebration.
