Thiruvathira Mahotsavam 2026 at the Lord Shiva Temple, Althraramoodu, Kadakkal, Kollam is a spiritually significant annual festival that draws devotees from Kadakkal and nearby regions of Kollam district.
Celebrated on the auspicious Thiruvathira Nakshatra during the Malayalam month of Kumbham (February–March), this festival is deeply rooted in Kerala’s Shaiva traditions and cultural heritage.
Thiruvathira holds special importance in Lord Shiva worship, symbolizing divine energy, harmony and spiritual renewal. At the Althraramoodu Lord Shiva Temple, the festival is observed with great devotion through special abhishekams, Shivalinga poojas and offerings such as bilva leaves, vibhuti and dhara. The temple premises resonate with the chanting of Shiva mantras and devotional hymns creating a serene and sacred atmosphere throughout the day.
Devotees begin arriving at the temple early in the morning to participate in the Thiruvathira poojas seeking Lord Shiva’s blessings for health, prosperity, marital harmony, and spiritual well-being.
