Perumon Ther is one of the most vibrant and spiritually significant festivals celebrated at the Perumon Sree Bhadrakali Temple in Kollam, Kerala. Dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali, the temple becomes a center of devotion, tradition and cultural expression during this grand annual celebration.
The festival is deeply rooted in age old customs and is known for its unique rituals drawing devotees from nearby regions and beyond.
A major highlight of the festival is the ceremonial Ther which symbolizes the divine journey of the Goddess among her devotees. The beautifully decorated chariot procession, accompanied by traditional percussion ensembles like chenda melam and panchavadyam creates a powerful and electrifying atmosphere. Devotees gather in large numbers to witness and participate in this sacred procession believing it brings blessings, prosperity and spiritual purification.
The festival also features important rituals such as Thiruvathira Pongala where women devotees offer prayers and prepare sacred offerings seeking prosperity and well being. Another significant ritual is Pillai Veyppu, a deeply symbolic ceremony associated with prayers for children and family welfare.
