Thalavoor Pooram at Thalavoor Devi Temple, Kollam is one of the most vibrant and culturally rich temple festivals in Kerala celebrated with immense devotion, grandeur and community participation. This festival showcases the deep-rooted traditions of Kerala’s temple culture combining religious rituals, art forms and community festivities into a single spectacular event.
The temple dedicated to Goddess Vadrakali becomes the center of spiritual and cultural activity during this festival, attracting devotees from Kollam and surrounding regions who come to seek the blessings of the deity.
The festival is marked by elaborate rituals beginning with the Thrikkodiyettam which symbolizes the official commencement of the celebrations. Devotees actively participate in daily prayers, devotional music sessions and the recitation of sacred texts such as the Bhagavata Purana. The temple premises are adorned with traditional decorations illuminating the spiritual atmosphere and enhancing the visual appeal for visitors.
One of the festival’s highlights is the Talavoor Pooram procession which features richly decorated elephants, traditional percussion ensembles and folk performances.
