Thalavoor Pongala 2026 is one of the most significant festivals celebrated at Thrikonnamarkode Sree Bhadrakali Devi Temple in Kollam drawing devotees from across Kerala and beyond. This festival is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Bhadrakali and is marked by deep devotion, vibrant rituals and a strong sense of community participation.
The festival begins early in the morning with the regular temple poojas and Nirmalya Darshanam, allowing devotees to offer prayers and witness the sanctum in its sacred state. From 7:00 AM, the community Pongala begins, where women devotees prepare offerings of rice, jaggery, and coconut in earthen pots in the temple premises and surrounding areas. This act of devotion is believed to bring prosperity, spiritual blessings and the removal of obstacles from the lives of participants.
The inauguration of the Pongala is conducted by prominent dignitaries, including Shri K.B. Ganesh Kumar, Hon. Minister of Transport and NSS leader which adds to the festival’s significance and grandeur. After the offerings, devotees partake in the distribution of prasadam, which is considered highly auspicious. The temple provides Pongala coupons through the Devaswam office, local counters and representatives ensuring that even those unable to visit the temple directly can have their offerings presented at the Pandara Aduppu, the temple’s designated kitchen area.
The festival creates a spiritually charged atmosphere with devotional singing, chanting and the collective participation of devotees contributing to the temple’s vibrant and sacred ambiance. Thalavoor Pongala is not only a religious event but also a cultural gathering, reflecting Kerala’s rich temple traditions and community harmony. The festival culminates with the offering of prasadam concluding the day with blessings for all devotees and reinforcing the importance of devotion, faith and community spirit.
