Thaipooyam Mahotsavam 2026 is one of the major annual festivals celebrated at Thrikonnamarkode Sree Bhadrakali Devi Temple in Thalavoor, Kollam. This festival is dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali and is marked by vibrant rituals, devotional fervor and large scale community participation. Thaipooyam is especially significant for devotees who observe fasts and carry out acts of penance to seek the blessings of the goddess for protection, prosperity and spiritual growth.
The festival begins early in the morning with Nirmalyadarshanam, allowing devotees to view the sanctum in its pristine state. Special poojas follow, along with Skanda Purana Parayanam, conducted by temple-appointed scholars, including Shri Sunil Thalavoor and Shri N.S. Rajan. These recitations are believed to bring spiritual merit and divine blessings to all participants.
A hallmark of Thaipooyam is the Ghoseh Yatra which starts from Thalavoor Tattamangalam Shiva Temple and passes through major points including the Sreenagaraja Temple. Over 500 devotees carry Kavadi, accompanied by the Pushparatham led by Anakkottur Babu and his team, traditional Chenda Melam performances, Pookkavadi and Theyyam rituals. This grand, devotional procession reaches the Thrikonnamarkode temple sanctum around noon creating an atmosphere of divine energy and communal devotion.
At 12:00 PM, the temple organizes Annadanam providing prasadam and meals to all devotees. The evening features the Bhasmakavadi procession at 5:30 PM where devotees carrying Bhasmakavadi in a state of ritual purity proceed from the moolasthanam to the temple, followed by Deeparadhana. Thaipooyam Mahotsavam embodies a perfect blend of devotion, tradition,and cultural expression drawing devotees and visitors from across the region to witness and participate in these sacred rituals.
