Rohini Mahotsavam at Thachan Kavu Sree Durga Devi Temple, Kollam is one of the most revered and vibrant festivals celebrated in the region drawing devotees from all over Kerala and beyond. The festival is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga who is considered the divine protector and symbol of strength, prosperity and spiritual well being.
The temple itself nestled in the serene locality of Thekkan Mainagappally is renowned for its rich heritage, traditional architecture and devotion filled atmosphere making it an ideal venue for such a sacred celebration.
The Mahotsavam is marked by a variety of religious rituals and cultural programs that reflect the deep rooted traditions of Kerala temple festivals. Devotees participate in Mahamrityunjaya Homam, a powerful fire ritual performed for health, longevity, and the removal of negative influences. Thiruvathira, a traditional dance performed by women in honor of the goddess adds a unique cultural dimension to the festivities. Kaikottikkali, a folk dance accompanied by rhythmic clapping and devotional songs highlights the community’s collective devotion and joy.
