The Ashtabandha Navikaranakalasham and Sahasrakalasham at Arackal Devi Temple, Kollam is a deeply revered and spiritually significant ritual that reflects the rich traditions of Kerala temple culture.
This sacred ceremony is performed as part of the temple’s renovation and rejuvenation process, aimed at restoring the divine energy (Chaitanyam) of the presiding deity. The Ashtabandha ritual involves the consecration of the idol using a special herbal paste made from eight sacred ingredients, symbolizing strength, stability and divine presence. It is believed that this process reinforces the spiritual power of the deity and ensures the continued blessings for devotees.
Navikaranakalasham is conducted to purify and re-energize the temple structure and surroundings. Through Vedic chants, homams, and kalasha poojas, the entire temple atmosphere is sanctified creating a powerful spiritual ambiance.
The Sahasrakalasham. one of the major highlights of the festival involves the ceremonial offering of one thousand sacred pots filled with holy water which are later used for abhishekam. This ritual is considered highly auspicious and is performed with great devotion and precision by experienced priests.
