The Maha Shiva Purana Yajnam, Shivaratri Mahotsavam & Pongala 2026 at Koduveli Sree Mahadevar Temple, Kizhakke Kallada, Kollam is a spiritually vibrant and culturally rich celebration dedicated to Lord Shiva. Organized under the Travancore Devaswom Board, this annual festival brings together devotees from across Kollam district and beyond to participate in sacred rituals, devotional chanting and traditional temple festivities.
The Maha Shiva Purana Yajnam forms the spiritual core of the celebration. Learned Vedic scholars lead the yajnam with the recitation of the Shiva Purana accompanied by powerful Vedic mantras and homams performed as per traditional tantric rites. The yajnam is conducted under the guidance of esteemed Thantris and Acharyas ensuring that every ritual follows authentic temple customs. Devotees gather in large numbers to witness the sacred fire rituals believing that participation brings divine blessings, prosperity, and spiritual upliftment.
Shivaratri Mahotsavam is observed with deep devotion marked by special poojas, abhishekams and continuous chanting of “Om Namah Shivaya” The temple atmosphere becomes spiritually charged as Akhanda Nama Japa Yajnam ills the air with sacred vibrations. Night long prayers and offerings symbolize devotion, selfndiscipline and surrender to Lord Mahadeva.
Pongala is another major highlight of the festival where women devotees prepare sacred offerings in earthen pots as an expression of faith and gratitude. Annadanam is conducted daily serving meals to hundreds of devotees reflecting the temple’s commitment to community service and spiritual equality.
The celebration also features Kalasha Pooja, grand Kettukazhcha processions and various cultural programs that showcase Kerala’s rich artistic heritage. Traditional temple percussion, devotional music and classical performances add color and grandeur to the festivities making it a spiritually fulfilling and culturally memorable experience for all participants.
